The Angelman syndrome is a rare disease and therefore affects a too small number of persons to interest the pharmaceutical companies and therefore the research. The low interest obviously reflects on the quantity and quality of the physicians and specialists in general who are capable of properly dealing with this disease, and also on the costs of medicines available on the market (a reduced number), medicines which become therefore “orphan medicines”. Even the sufferers, at this point, are called “orphan sufferers”.
